Description

Limited Edition – 5 only

On a photo excursion into Brisbane I shot a number of photos at building sites where enormous construction machines danced about the landscape. I mirrored and reflected the chosen background images and overlayed a central horizontal layer of line-work to add some unification. Then came layers of rhythmical lines and shapes to express the dance of these ‘blue cranes’. Across the dance are layers of textures shot at these fascinating but dusty graffitied locations. Inspired by the works of Fred Williams I placed the final layer of imitation blobs of colour – I’m my case each blob is a combination of a letterforms that I reversed out of smudges, hot coloured shapes and blue line scribbles. This final layer locks the piece into place and provides another narrative. It was important to me that the piece worked visually as both a dance of construction cranes and a dance of bird cranes.
