Description
Kalkurr (The Road) is about the ebbs and flows of life, the many different landscapes and intersections we find ourselves at, and how we respond to life’s seasons. Those responses are what define and shape our character.
For me, it’s about the marinade between spirituality, religion and culture. This song was birthed in exile, when Kalkurr…the road, was my home. After two strokes, when I felt my life being taken from me, I realised I wasn’t infallible or bulletproof. I had to be humbled and atone. Repentance is a journey, and so is learning to be grateful for the little things we often take for granted: family, friends, and holding the person in the mirror to account. That’s what inspires me to become the best version of myself and to stand in spiritual power and excellence.
Every time I sing this song, it takes me to the Third Space, another universal realm. That’s what I hope the song and this visual landscape can do for people, particularly the little ones and the generations yet to be born.
