Description
Is a piece that I dedicate to my brother Rodney Boschman, it’s a fusion of the Turrbal/ Yuggerra & his homelands of the beautiful Pilbara country in WA, connected by the great Maiwar (Brisbane river) where we both currently reside. It highlights the story of him being stolen from his beloved mother and taken over to Europe, which in turn had profound impacts on him throughout his adolescent and adult years, constantly trying to fit in and the loss of being taken from his beautiful mother made my heart so sore for my brother.
It was in the mid 2000’s where we first connected at the Dreaming Festival in Woodford, and then I met him a few years later through a mutual friend. Learning his story around a fire overlooking Moreton Bay, I was so inspired by his ethos in life and began writing a song, the initial name was titled (The Black Dutchman), his nickname, which later changed to (Pilbara Man). The song is like an ode to my big brother, and through some ordained spiritual rebirth, ironically, we ended up having open heart surgery in 2020 up at PAH around the same time it was quite profound, this life-changing experience and it’s something that will always keep us connected as artists, storytellers, but importantly as brothers from different countries.
