Description
I was asked to paint this little art piece that represents all black lives lost since the Recommendations of the Royal Commission into black deaths in custody were implemented in 1991.
Rather fortuitously, out of that harrowing process of representing my family with matters relating to Aunty Sherry, I united with other family members affected by this scourge that is black deaths in custody around Australia. I was asked to paint this little art piece that represents all black lives lost since the Recommendations of the Royal Commission into black deaths in custody were implemented in 1991. The impacts and deleterious consequences that this scourge has on our families but also our communities permeate like a disease that, unfortunately, copious amounts more of our people are finding themselves in contact with the judicial racist systems within this country that’s showing no signs of abating. Lest we forget, the struggle still continues.
