Description
Though crocodiles are not native to the highlands of Kalkadoon land, their presence is felt through Dreaming stories shared across neighbouring Nations, passed down through generations.
One such story tells of a crocodile ancestor who travelled inland from coastal waters, carving out rivers and shaping parts of the landscape as he moved. He brought knowledge of the water, taught respect for nature’s boundaries, and reminded people to be cautious, patient, and strong. His spirit remains in the deep waterholes and still places, guarding the land and those who honour it.
In this way, the crocodile has become a guardian figure in Kalkadoon storytelling—a reminder of shared knowledge, strength, and connection between lands and peoples. His story is a bridge, linking waterways, cultures, and the wisdom of old.
