Description
“Sublime” was created after a long drive with the Artist’s husband to visit his family in the Lockyer Valley.
The late afternoon light lit the Valley with a glimmer and glow that created a deep sense of calm and inspired a sense of hope and tranquility.
Painting this singular tree on this mountainside inspired me to think about the play of light and shade in shadows. I was affected by the sense of permanence of the tree, yet also of the many changes that would be wrought upon it throughout the tree’s lifetime.
By focussing on a singular tree, it highlights the possibility of the many many trees in the mountainous vista beyond. It is possible that each tree enjoys its own spotlight, or possibly each tree blends in harmony with those around them, allowing for the singular beauty of one tree to be highlighted.
The first reaction of people to this painting is indrawn breath. I imagine this to be the prelude to the sense of stillness that beguiles us when we glimpse a view of natures perfection.
This would be a perfect painting for any room in your home where you wanted to capture the imagination of your viewer and yet instil a sense of calm.
