Description
In Kalkadoon culture, mothers are central to life. They are givers of life, nurturers, teachers, and protectors. They pass down language, traditions, and stories that keep culture strong. Through their care, wisdom, and strength, they guide not only their children but entire communities.
A martu is more than just a biological mother—she is any woman who takes on the role of caring and teaching, including aunties, grandmothers, and female Elders. In this way, motherhood is shared and respected across generations.
To honour martu is to honour the heart of community, the keepers of culture, and the spirit of resilience that has carried Aboriginal people through time.
