Although I don’t follow a particular religion I have a spirituality that acknowledges a ‘grand master plan’ of some sort. This image had Catholic Mexican ceremonial costumes as a jumping off point. I represented our souls as ever moving entities across and integrating with an evocative landscape. The landscape is a photo that I took years ago in Arches National Park – not a spectacular viewpoint but one that kept drawing me back to it – probably because of the early morning light. I wanted to represent those who have gone before us and used overlays of linear patterns in ghostly shapes inspired by the Mexican Catholic costumes. The image needed more drama so I added a layer of Brisbane clouds – which strangely felt more natural upside down!
