Description

This painting reimagines the Snow White story through the eyes of the glamorous, gothic stepmother. She holds a half-eaten apple in one hand, her dark nails and ring glinting like weapons of seduction.

In front of her blooms a lush and decadent arrangement—lotus, poppies, beans and peas—all symbols of temptation, fertility, and fleeting beauty. Hidden among the petals slithers a snake, while two rats scurry close by: one crouched within the bouquet, the other eyeing a gnawed apple core on the table. The question lingers—who truly took the first bite?

From the apple in the stepmother’s hand, pips spill outwards, drawing the eye toward the faint figure of a man in the background, his face just visible, a choker circling his neck like a mark of servitude. Is he complicit, or merely another victim of her power?

Just as in the old tale, the apple becomes more than fruit—it is the vessel of desire, danger, and downfall. But here, the story expands: is Snow White’s fate sealed by innocence, or by the dark forces of envy, hunger, and love entwined?
