In general I’m not into the horror genre, but there are a couple of road movies like ‘Duel’ and the original ‘Mad Max’ that I have enjoyed. And I love a long country road trip – just sitting back in the passenger seat photographing blurry signs, landscapes, trucks… At this moment I photographed of a ‘long vehicle’ going past and I knew I wanted to do something with them. I came up with the concept of a gothic horror road trip – overlaying the truck photos, recolouring them to look more like night and adding a printers filter to make them look edgier. I combined them with cemetery, landscape, texture and other ‘darker’ road trip photos that I had taken and featured a deep red colour. I spread the images over several pages and encased each image in a frame composed of chopped up gothic letter forms. This resulted in five separate images that work as a polyptych.
