Guugaar – Yuwaalaraay for Goanna – he will chase you!

We were staying at Mogila Sheep Station (about 6 miles from Goodooga), as there were too many of us home to stay at granny’s house… so we slept at the huts. One day, a guugaarr chased one of the men up the tree – he went up one fork, the man went the other. Then he came back, went up the same branch, before turning and running down the tree and scattered us all – screaming women and children everywhere.
