Description
The artwork was created for the Veterans Family and Community hub in Stafford, QLD. As a former serving nursing officer, I was humbled to be asked to create this original, measuring approx 2m long.
“Together we walk “features 4 sets of footprints, walking side by side. This links our service history and walking in formation, to the camaraderie during service, the lifelong friends we make, and you always know someone has your back. This Veterans community hub continues with that sense of belonging. Our experiences will be different; some will be the same; but that sense of being a part of a very big family, regardless of length of service, stays forever.
There are bad times, and there are good times. There is victory and there is being left feeling let down. This is reflected in dark sections and light. There are different geographical areas –represented with colour ie. Snow, rainforest, mountains, urban, rural, seaside.
There are poppies, a symbol of remembrance we all recognise. There are the colours of the Australian flag, and the ADF flag. Cracked mud represents my connection to Country – where I am from is flat, hot and dry. But it is also your connection to here, and to wherever you are from or going to. The long journey symbol across the top, represents exactly that… our journey of service and beyond.
