The “cursed palazzo “of Venice was built on the site of a Templar cemetery in 1479 by Giovanni Dario, who had been rewarded generously after negotiating a treaty with the Ottomans.
Beginning with Dario’s daughter, the palazzo became notorious for the murders, suicides, scandals and accidental deaths of those who bought the site or who lived the even briefly. The palace is on the south bank of the Grand Canal, adjacent to the Guggenheim museum and to the west of the Salute.
It features a pleasing asymmetrical façade clad in polychrome marble and Istrian stone, with circular features and a single balcony. Lancet windows and a water portal are on the lower floor.
