Description
The steps are a monumental cascade from the Trinita dei Monti church, above , to the Fontana della Barcaccia below. The latter is a circular patten, in the Piazza di Spagna, but not well visualised from this aspect, from the eastern end of the via Condotti.. The Steps date from the 1717 designs of Francesco de Sanctis. and have required several renovations over the years, lately under the aegis of the Bulgari fashion/jewellery firm, The Steps are covered by strict behavioural statutes – trash the site at your peril (no eating, no prams).
Behind and to the left of the Trinita are the extensive Borghese gardens Villa snd Galleria. On the tight is the Hassler Villa Medici, perhaps the most famous of the Roman luxury hotels. The via Condotti runs from the Via del Corso to this site and is the leading fashion centre in the city.
