Limited Edition Reproduction of 100 Only
Draught Horses are often known as Gentle Giants and are one of my favourite subjects.
Dating back to the mid to late 1800’s, Australia began cross breeding the then, four recognized pure draught horse breeds, Clydesdale, Percheron, Shire and Suffolk Punch. The Australian Draught Horse was developed with characteristics from these four breeds. Many colours resulted, with all solid colours accepted. White below the knees accepted, but too much white not favoured on the face for show judging.
This fellow is not a show horse, he has the important job of pulling the Cobb & Co carriage at the Rockhampton Heritage Village. They are powerful horses with a docile nature. Standing alongside, you can feel their strength, but also the aura of gentleness. Willing to work, they also have the patience of, Just Waitin’, until required to move on.
