Description
Open Edition Reproduction
A profile painting of a gelada baboon that is found in the wild only in the Ethiopian highlands. I created the original artwork with acrylic paints on a stretched canvas. The reddish skin patches on its throat and chest are a unique feature of the gelada.
It is not a tree dweller. Instead it spends its time eating mostly grasses, and expertly climbing in rocky gorges. The gelada baboon lives in large bands, often in the hundreds. Length of head and body of a male gelada : 19 to 29 inches, plus tail of 12 to 19 inches.
