Description
This painting was inspired by a holiday to Southern Turkey, where I visited the stunning Blue Lagoon at Ölüdeniz—a protected National Park known for its crystal-clear waters and environmental care. Scattered along the beach were large terracotta pots, provided to visitors as bins for rubbish and cigarette butts, ensuring the area remained clean and pristine.
I was struck not only by the natural beauty but also by the playful contrast of beachgoers—some with their backs turned to the sea, sunbaking or strolling, and one joyful child running nude towards the water. The scene sparked a light-hearted visual pun: “Butts Out”—capturing both the literal and figurative sides of the phrase.
This piece is a celebration of beach culture, humour, and environmental awareness, all wrapped into one vibrant moment. It reminds us that caring for nature doesn’t have to be serious—it can also be cheeky and joyful.
