Hi I’m Sally-Ann,
I am a self-taught artist, born and raised in New Zealand, Aotearoa now living in Tannum Sands Queensland Australia. From a young age my passion has been to paint.
My Husband and I have four beautiful Children. Becoming a Mother has given me the super power of maternal love. Growing into my role as a Mother I have developed this profound need to express this love and deep connection between Mother and child through my art. Spiritually and physically, the journey from preconception to postpartum is both amazing and life changing. It’s not only about the growth and development of the baby but also the Mother. Together they grow solidifying that essential bond and maternal love you see depicted in my artwork. Maternal Artistry.
Experiencing this has given me great insight and understanding. This along with my expressive imagination and vision using acrylics on canvas I have taken great pleasure in creating unique maternal pieces. I also love to play with colour palettes painting seascapes and birds. Everything you can imagine is real.
Growing up as a typical Kiwi kid my family and I spent the majority of our weekends at our family bach’s on Rangitoto Island an Ohawini Bay New Zealand. Growing up in a coastal environment and its surrounding elements sparked my passion for the natural world and all its beauty. Fishing, swimming, bush huts, gathering seafood, nights gazing at the moon and stars and counting satellite’s sums up my childhood perfectly. I am so grateful for these experiences and special memories that have shaped who I am today and how I see the world.
Finishing school I served six years in the Royal New Zealand Navy as a Hydrographic Surveyor. Drawn to the sea, joining the Navy seemed a natural progression for me. Living life on the ocean, traveling the world I experienced so many amazing sights and scenes. There is nothing like the rise and fall of the sun at sea.
My Husband and I moved to Australia in 2012. Having set down roots in a small beachside community our children have flourished. As an artist it has given me the perfect setting to be inspired, creative and thrive. Having lived in both New Zealand and Australia I embrace and appreciate each country for its own diverse and unique beauty.
My dream is too able to share my art with world, to inspire minds and evoke emotions. To bring a little bit of happiness into your home.
“The meaning of life is to find your gift, the purpose of life is to give it away”.
