Artist Biography

Keren is an Australian seascape and landscape painter whose work bridges realism and impressionism, capturing the emotional resonance of the natural world as much as its physical form. Based in Brisbane, she draws inspiration from the observable effects of atmospheric changes unfolding across vast coastlines and landscapes. Her practice is rooted in a deep desire for genuine connection — with nature, with others, and with the quiet moments that invite reflection.

This sense of “here and now” is central to her work. Her paintings invite viewers to pause, breathe, and notice a moment that will never be repeated: a particular light, a fleeting cloud formation, or water reshaping rocks, shorelines, and river inlets.

Influenced early on by the sculptural forms of Henry Moore, Keren explored tonal drawing and created her own small sculptural works. Weather‑shaped rocks, symbols of strength and groundedness, remain recurring motifs in her paintings.

Working primarily in oils, Keren is drawn to their buttery texture and their ability to hold subtle, elusive colour.  Keren expanded her skills learning from accomplished artists, particularly inspired by Herman Pekel, Colley Whisson and Marcel Desbeins, to name a few. When using acrylics, she often incorporates watercolour or oil techniques to evoke mood, movement, and the ephemeral qualities of light. Her paintings explore the interplay between observation and feeling, honouring both the truth of the scene and the emotional response it stirs.

Keren’s work continues to evolve as she follows her curiosity for colour, atmosphere, and the poetic tension between what is seen and what is felt. Through her art, she invites viewers into moments of calm, joy, and connection.

“I care about deep, honest connections with people and nature. I get very excited by the changing colours, reflections and form of the landscape as it is touched by light and water.  Perhaps this is why I paint somewhere between realism and impressionism.  The value to be true, real, combining with the elated feelings of joy and calm I experience taking in every hue, breeze and lapping wave, reflected in the romanticised idealism of impressionism.  I sometimes employ techniques borrowed from mediums like oils or watercolours to convey these moods and feelings. The silky texture of oils, however, would be my favourite medium for depicting the elusive colours in reflections and the whimsical nature of clouds on a summer’s day.”

Her work has been exhibited and sold for over two decades through community exhibitions, Art West Indooropilly-Keren Robert, Base Art Holland Part, and online platforms including Bluethumb. Limited‑Edition Fine Art Reproductions are available, and original works can be purchased directly from Keren via Instagram or Facebook, with an online store soon to be available.
