Art school drop out, Vick Pattison was born and bred on New Zealands South Island.
Vick’s artist career started early when, at the age of 8, paper and colours under her arm, she would persistently hustle family and friends to let her draw for them. From there Vick’s work as a professional artist spans decades’ worth of commissioned work and a full range of private and commercial gigs.
Equalling her passion for art was her desire to travel. So immediately after completing a trade in Signwriting Vick packed up little more than her brushes and tenacious attitude and headed to the sunnier shores of a much bigger Island to make her mark.
First establishing herself designing and hand painting artwork for custom signs, cars and motorcycles on Queenslands Sunshine Coast.
Genre defiant and determined not to bow to the slick digital world she saw consuming her trade, Vick built a vast and diverse repertoire of hand painted work, which grew to include such things as helicopters, helmets and buses, as well as commissioned murals for showrooms, bars, private homes and film sets.
By seizing the opportunities that came her way and daring to undertake the at times daunting range of jobs for which she was and continues to be solicited, Vick was able to live off her art practice and raise a family.
Her constant pursuit of artistic betterment has taken her all over the globe, over the years, giving her the opportunity to meet and work with many mentors and acquire the skills, techniques and experience to literally paint anything, in any form, size or genre, and on any surface imaginable to which paint will adhere.
Although she has enjoyed her years working on different media in a variety of contexts, once the kids (whom she still considers her most challenging but finest works of art) were old enough to take care of themselves, Vick decided to leave the coast and head for the city to pursue what, since age 8, she always wanted to do. Since moving to Brisbane in 2017, although she still accepts the odd commercial contract and commission, Vick devotes the bulk of her time painting large canvases which explore the contradictory elements and often jarring contrasts that characterise urban life.
