From a young age Sue was drawing cartoon characters and doodling. When she told her parents she wanted to be an artist, they thought it could be difficult to make a living. While most artists know that to be true, she wanted to become an artist more than anything else. Convincing them that studying at art college was a good idea she found her place there among other artists. She completed a Certificate in Commercial Illustration. She graduated from Queensland College of Art after three years of study. The subjects she studied included drawing, design, colour study, art history and illustration.
Sue worked in advertising agencies during the exciting times of the 80s. In her position as Junior Art Director, she was designing advertisements for many of Brisbane's fashion houses as well as various department stores. Being married by then, Sue wanted to have children. She needed a job with regular hours. So, she worked for many years with Yellow Pages in Brisbane and received extensive training in Illustrator and Photoshop. From there, Sue spent over 10 years working as a Graphic Designer in the marketing departments of the not for profit health sector.
Sue is now building a small Graphic Design business as well as developing contemporary digital illustrations for use in interior design.
She also enjoys developing her watercolour painting skills. She would love to see these paintings on the walls of homes, businesses, and restaurants. With plans of building her catalogue of work, the future is looking a little different from original career but continuing to enjoy the experience of being creative.
