Orange and Lemon

Limited Edition Reproduction – 100 only

Orange and Lemon is a play on words derived from a popular childhood game, where we “all fall down”. The Artist has painted the Lemon with a singular attention to detail, creating a need in the viewer to reach out and touch the fruit to ascertain its reality (or otherwise).  By creating a focus on a singular fruit, the Artist has pared back to the very basics of what makes the lemon sing. In this case, it is the electric golden colour of the fruit, which has then been perfectly paired with the brightest of oranges.

Oranges a plenty

Limited Edition Reproduction of 50 Only
love seeing complementary colours working well together, the blues and greens just made these bright oranges pop! I was pleased to find some interesting shapes and colours to work on this still life. I truly felt like eating some whilst painting away, well they are so delicious in the winter time!! I made the effort to keep my brushstrokes broad with the hope of encouraging spontaneity and a freshness! A sweet little lime green teacup on the side helped with the balance of colours.

Oranges and Lemons in a crystal bowl.

Open Edition Reproduction

I painted this picture directly from the fruit in a crystal vase on a table under my house at Anthony St., Ascot. I loved the warm orange colour, contrasting with the cooler lemon colour. I enhanced both colours with a beautiful neutral blue-orange wash in the background. An orange frame then completed the work which is hanging at home in Hendra.

Fishing boat on Filiatro Beach Ithaca Greece

My wife and I were holidaying Ithaca, Greece in September 2024 when we saw this unique, Grecian fishing boat moored on Filiatro Beach. The colours are unique to Greece. The oranges and blues are so striking that I wanted to use watercolour to recapture this interesting, local scene.

Green and Red Apple

As both Artist and Cook, I have for many years been intrigued by the perfect colours and shapes of various foods. We eat with our eyes and as an Artist, we create beloved memories of those foods.  The items that we consume and the items that we paint, often take on a similar complexity. However, it is sometimes important to appreciate the simplicity of a singular colour or a singular fruit and give those items the attention to detail that they deserve – albeit on a simple scale.

By creating paintings that endow a simple fruit with a unique sense of importance, the magnificence of the fruit is shown in all its abundance.  The plain brightly coloured background emphasises the singular fruit and the perfect blend of colours.
