Natalie Tegart is an Australian wildlife and portrait artist who lives in Brisbane, Queensland. Natalie’s artistic ability was recognised early whilst at Torquay Primary School, when the school held their annual “Artist Make Your Mark” award. Her passion for art and creative nature clearly helped her stand out amongst her peers, as she would win in various categories each and every year. With such an obvious artistic talent, opportunities outside the school started to present themselves, followed by a self portrait painting which was exhibited at the Geelong Art Gallery, Victoria.
Since those inspired earlier days, Natalie shifted her focus to pursue another of her passions - aviation - currently working as a pilot with her husband. Though, those artistic passions never left her and in recent times began building a business from requests for portraits and the like. A commissioned North American Bluebird painting was designed and brought to life with watercolour for the purpose of being the cover art for a poetry book published by 97-year-old author, Avril Smith.
This type of commission work has been a great honour for Natalie, utilising her refined artistic abilities to reignite her love of painting once more. Natalie is an accomplished technical drawer and applies a high level of precision and accuracy to her paintings. No detail gets unnoticed as every nuance found in the expression and life of her subject is considered. Her portraits catch the softness of skin tone, colour and movement of hair, the liveliness of her subjects eyes, to become a beautiful representation. Natalie is at present curating a collection of native Australian watercolour birds. Some of which include a Laughing Kookaburra, Galah, Gang Gang Cockatoo and Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo.
Natalie paints with watercolour using layered colour to build up visual depth, which creates a realistic likeness of her subject matter. Her brush work and applied self taught techniques has brought about the refinement found within her paintings.
“It’s a totally enjoyable & epic process from start to finish“ she said. “It’s a case of complete commitment once the idea of a new painting begins“ Weeks of countless hours put into completing her beautiful images as the painting grows into life.
