My life has been one connected to the sea. Surfing, fishing, boating and time spent on the ocean has been the source of my artistic inspiration. The master seascape and water painters have always totally intrigued me in how water characteristics can be captured in two-dimensional paint. Inspired by this challenge, my painting journey has centered on water and movement in its many forms.
My professional career encompassed some 30 years as a secondary Graphics teacher, so I have a strong background in design and drafting. Part of this was a senior teacher of Advanced Geometrical and Perspective drawing and I find this always leads my composition and application.
Representing movement also has led to a love of representing birds in flight. While my painting started in acrylic work, I quickly moved to oil painting as it offered so much in terms of blending and detail. My paintings generally focus on the natural world seeking places and subjects of beauty and intrigue.
I spent my early artistic years creating pastel and ink drawings; however, I always had the ambition to paint while in retirement and I'm loving it!
