Lara has enjoyed painting in oils for many years. Three years ago she decided to pursue her passion and held her first Solo Exhibition at Wild Canary in November 2018. Lara is a representational painter who explores colour and form, working within the genre of Still Life.
Her painterly style focuses on quality mark making. The layered surface is as important as capturing the nuances of light and shadows. Of course where there is light, there is colour. Lara embraces colour confidently, engaging in observation based studio practice from her home in Brisbane.
She is influenced by traditional Still Life depiction of cloth, fruit and flowers, but delivers a fresh look at the joyful application of colour. Collected vessels inspire Lara along with hand picked garden flowers, fruit and foraged local pickings.
The objects are used to encourage the viewer to slow down and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us everyday. Often there is sentimental value placed on the jugs and vases used. The paintings have strong compositions with a clear focal point to convey a suggestion behind the source of inspiration.
