I am a mixed media artist living in Brisbane. My work is about how I see the natural world, how all the elements in the environment relate to each other. It is mostly stylised or abstract but mostly figurative, with people and plants as favourite subjects. The world is constantly shown to us in fragments and my work reflects that by incorporating many processes and layered elements.
Every piece begins by preparing the background with collage, image transfers and linework. This foundation often dictates what will come next, but the subject matter is my key concern. Working over the background with acrylic and water-based mediums, delivers a spontaneity and energy to each piece. The act of creativity helps me to see the natural world in all its detail and beauty.
My work occupies that space between pure abstraction and realism. It leaves enough obscurity to allow the viewer to add information with their own experiences of a certain location or person or subject. It’s all about evoking a memory or an emotion when looking at that piece.
