Lorikeets are crazy, wild birds which simply make me laugh when I see a group of them (known as a Loriini) flailing about in the trees. They are so noisy with their shrieking and incessant chatting, I always wonder what they are talking about. Penelope the Baby Lorikeet was inspired by a Loriini of Lorikeets who frequented our backyard grevillea.
I tried to capture the rainbow of colours and textures of her feathers whilst maintaining the fun and beauty of the Lorikeet's bright beaks, eyes and colourful plumage.
