Our art reflects who we are. I cannot remember a time when flowers were not a part of my life and they are now significant to me in my autumn years. My grandmother once told me to ‘Stop and smell the roses”. Now I take the time to not only smell the roses but to transfer their perfume to the canvas.
I capture those, “je ne sais quoi”, fleeting moments in time and the beauty of life through flowers. The colours within a blossom are often not what you expect until you take an intimate look. Exploring the different light aspects of a flower, not normally seen by the passing observer and transferring this to the canvas is my objective.
Bold colours and large blooms, inspire me. However, black and white paintings also feature in my work. These show beauty in the simplest format. I enjoy the subtle way that a petal folds and how the light hits it, making it glow. My art is about how to live life with a deeper appreciation of the world. I now focus on the importance of knowing how to be present in the moment; otherwise those moments will pass us by. To capture, in particular, the light within these fleeting seconds, inspires me to paint.
I have Parkinson’s disease. Now don’t let that shock you. In a way, if it wasn’t for Parkinson’s and a couple of other life changing events, I wouldn’t be painting today. Art is a wonderful therapy for me and allows me to live life quite normally, at present. To some extent there is a sense of urgency in wanting to paint more often, but this won’t stop me from enjoying the process and taking my time to allow this to be stress free.
Therefore, I don’t exhibit as widely as I would like. However, being part of a community gallery such as Art West Community Gallery at Mt Ommaney allows me the joy of exhibiting without the stress. I am also part of an annual exhibition at the Richard Randall Studio Gallery Brisbane Botanic Gardens - Mt Coot-tha. Occasionally, I exhibit at the Aspire Gallery at Paddington, when the genre is right.
My paintings allow me to share the beauty of nature and the empowering perfume that reminds us to live life well and to the fullets.

Due to having Parkinson's Disease, I paint for the wonderfully positive results I get from the joy of painting. BuyArtNow allows me to exhibit to so many more people through the website. This allows me to avoid stress where possible and therefore limit where I currently exhibit. I do have work at Aspire Gallery Paddington occasionally. Art West Community Gallery allows me to exhibit in an community environment that has added benefits for someone as myself.
I also exhibit at the AWCG Annual Exhibition at the Richard Randall Studio Gallery at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens - Mt Coot
