The Madonna is known as Mother Mary, and in Italian the word ‘Ma Donna’ translates to, 'My Lady'. This piece was inspired by Cheryl's love of Michelangelo's famous statue, 'The Pietà' and the healing messages of the Madonna.
This piece was painted as a devotional piece to capture the healing essence of The Madonna (Mother Mary). She embodies the energy of divine love and grace, and a belief in something greater than us. Her image and vision symbolises faith and purity.
"I was blessed with the opportunity to see Michelangelo’s, 'The Pietà' in person on my trip to Italy in 2019. I’m in awe of this sculpture and painting it has me even more in awe! On my return home to Australia from Italy I was able to add more depth to my own work in progress. There is something truly amazing about seeing Michelangelo's work in person, I found it deeply inspiring. I have so much respect and admiration for the depth of his work."
