Signing all paintings with “Banjo” which is a nick name Brad was given as a child when he used to write poetry and draw sketches in his spare time. Brad had a keen interest in art until grade 8 when an art teacher publicly embarrassed him in front of his peers with negative comments of an abstract portrait he had just completed. After that experience he gave art away for the next 35 years.
His renewed passion for art ignited again in 2013 during a business meeting where he started to notice the different shapes and colors that formed his clients face. He went straight home to start his second ever painting, a large portrait of his eldest daughter.
Brad is self-taught, never having studied art beyond grade eight nor read any how-to books. His first several portraits were completed on overpainted second-hand canvases utilizing house paint, home decoration brushes and his fingers.
In the last 5 years he has completed numerous original paintings although only sharing with close family. He started with mainly portraits then branched out painting other subjects he was passionate about in his life. This included anything with wheels, mainly a love of cars and motorcycles.
Brad has a successful career in the corporate world and uses art to break away from reality and to relax. His supportive wife has been the motivation for sharing his artwork with the public as he has preferred to keep this part of his life quite private. Banjo is also a proud father of two girls who have regularly been the subject in many of his paintings.
