I sometimes wonder what people think of watermelons who’ve never seen or tasted one their whole life. Imagine being presented with this large green ball. Smooth, shiny and somehow taut. Being told that it’s food – there you go, enjoy!
You cut into it, maybe thinking it will be like pumpkin but once past the rind, the knife seems to slide in so effortlessly. It cracks open and you’re presented with this crunchy looking pink flesh. Can you eat it raw, or what? You nibble a tiny piece. It’s sweet! Watery! Your fingers get sticky and there is watermelon juice all over the cutting board, the bench, the knife.
A revelation. A new chapter in your life.
