Venice: looking towards Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore

I painted this view from the Dorsoduro in Venice when we visited in January. I wanted to enhance the warm blue colour of the vacant gondolas and the warm orange, yellow-ochre colours of the Chiesa di San Giorgio Maggiore by painting a light neutral sky and cool neutral green water in the foreground. The shadows on the water provided a beautiful, contrasting effect.
