Tin can, red pot

Sometimes I specifically buy things to set up still life scenes. I found this little red saucepan in Camp Hill antiques in Brisbane, right as Covid was starting to kick off. Some people were in masks, some weren't. People were still getting the hang of social distancing, many still not really getting it.

Sometimes I specifically buy things to set up still life scenes. I found this little red saucepan in Camp Hill antiques in Brisbane, right as Covid was starting to kick off. Some people were in masks, some weren't. People were still getting the hang of social distancing, many still not really getting it.

Harold, you don't need that replica milk jug so much that you need to lean past me to look at it, just go look at those tea cosies while you wait, you'll be fine.  While I originally completed this painting in 2020, by 2022 I’d upskilled quite a bit and it underwent a little reno.

I don’t usually do that to old paintings but something about it irked me. When I realised what it was, (not enough contrast) it was clear what I had to do. The originally pale background became quite a lot darker, increasing the impact of that shiny tin can.  The tin can? Peaches. I bought a lot of tinned peaches in 2020 because being in your first pandemic makes you buy weird things.
