The Crab Nebula – Light

Description

An exploding supernova had created what we know today as Crab Nebula. At its centre is a high-density neutron star, also known as a pulsar. Rotating rapidly, pulsars typically gush out a profusion of high-energy particles, which in turn produce an expanding X-ray nebula. Though not directly visible to the naked eye, this electromagnetic radiation can be picked up by NASA’s powerful Chandra telescope. In the mediated image, lower-energy X-rays are red, while medium-energy X-rays are green. The highest-energy X-rays emit blue light.

The central section of the image is where the artist’s inspiration comes from. The artist has captured the raw energy of the star’s demise, revealing the turbulent dance of gas and dust as it bursts forth in a spectacular display of light and colour.

Here, a mesmerising shape emerges from the centre, inviting the viewer to interpret and connect with the cosmic forces at play. This central focal point serves as a gateway to the artist’s vision, allowing the beholder to immerse themselves in the swirling vortex of light and colour.
