Description
I created this painting in the days following the initial Covid 19 lockdown, inspired by the sub-tropical garden surrounding my residence in the village of Bangalow on the Far north Coast of New South Wales, Australia
I was living alone so didn’t really feel threatened by the pandemic, and I was used to spending the days at home painting and writing. I was also reading alot, and I came across an Irish folklore reference to non-physical beings (elementals, leprachauns, etc) and I was introduced to their ability to ‘roll up their shadow’, which I interpreted as the ability to cloak themselves in inter-dimensionality.
At the same time I was aware that for once in possibly centuries, the plant kingdom was getting some respite from the polluting effect of the collective actions of mankind. I was filled with the thrill and joy of existence, and wanted to share more of the ecstacy, so I took my ukelele outside, sat amidst the lushness and humidity of an active mid-summer garden and strummed a few random chords of release, watching my only house guests, the birds and bees, enjoying the peace and the plenty; and I allowed myelf to become absorbed into the universal Spirit of Nature. The power of One.
