Modern Madonna

Description

I have always loved the Renaissance portraits of the Madonna and Child; those sublime depictions of that beautiful, tender relationship.  This is my homage to those paintings, but brought into the present, with the soft green of her shirt representing the environmental concerns of the modern mother, concerned for her child’s future.  She has the loving smile of the Madonna, and yet the dark shadows under her eyes allude to the lack of sleep that all young mothers experience, across the ages.
