Description

I wanted to capture this weekend where we as Yalanjiman, spent time out at the homeland (Jawi yabba) with my late son Waluwulkurin (Duke Brady) and my late brother Wawu Kawanji, all my other brothers and my father Malas (other) in 2016, it’s extremely emotional for me when I study this piece now because it reminds me of happier times with beautiful big son who we lost last year to suicide. To share that moment walking amongst the lands of the ancient kings, seeing and being graced by beautiful butterflies by the 1000’s, was like walking through the Garden of Eden, a sacred Utopia.

The country is hypnotic, always evolving and alive with a character unique to you as Yalanji descendants. When you leave the old country to return to the concrete world, you feel a sense of belonging and strong identity after swimming in the banawurun (rivers) where the stars kiss the sand (dawara). I always take that ceremony and healing powers wherever I travel with my music and arts, the many spears the universe swings my way in terms of my trials and tribulations, I always return to that sacred moment in time, up with all my family, in particular, my son Wawu Waluwulkurun.
