Dressage is a sport that requires excellence from both the rider and the horse. This is a graphite sketch for a very special dressage rider and coach, Nicole Tough. I am inspired as an artist while watching Nicole train her horses as she shows such dedication and passion. The pursuit of excellence in their movements as they work together as a team.

They make it look easy, but I know the persistence, practice and love that goes into making magic happen. I have emphasised the horse by using deeper tones and intricate detail. This represents the shine of his coat, tone of his muscles and excellence in his movement. I have used artists license to sketch the rider and put less detail and depth into her shading along with the ground. I feel it’s nice to do realism, but I like to show some artistic freedom in my artwork. Maybe this artwork can be part of your décor as it is a nice modern piece with the neutral tones and clean white background.
