There’s something about 100s and 1000s biscuits that evokes a certain slice of nostalgia from the 70s and 80s. It was a zeitgeist before we knew what a zeitgeist was. It was Women’s Weekly birthday cakes, cheezels, full days spent at the public pool unsupervised by an adult, wearing leather sandals as part of the school uniform, Inspector Gadget, music cassette tapes, red cordial, fairy bread.
Obviously I’ve taken liberties and put the biscuits in a jar; something that literally would never have happened back in those days. In my family I was one of 7 kids; the packet wouldn’t have lasted 10 minutes.
But I think when you bite into a crunchy 100s and 1000s biscuit, if you’re a certain age, you do get taken back in time for a moment.
