Amanda Slater

I have always been interested in art and fashion. Having retired from a career as a teacher, I now have the time and opportunity to explore my other great passion….Art. I have attended a variety of art courses and workshops covering printmaking, painting, drawing and collage. This has led me to develop a style combining all of those elements into Mixed-Media images. 
Mixed media art has so many possibilities and no boundaries. My knowledge, understanding and creativity is continuously evolving.
I enjoy working with many different materials and formats including but not limited to: drawing, painting, printmaking and collage. I love experimenting with layers of colours, texture and collage to assemble images. 
I find the transparency of colourful layers of pattern, text and paint intriguing. I collect materials like a bowerbird, finding creative uses for little torn bits of papers while adding colours and patterns to make a whole. 
Inspirational artists I admire include Gustav Klimt, Alphonse Mucha, Frida Kahlo and Gianni Versace. 
My art credentials include a Diploma of Fine Art in Fashion & Design and other external studies in printmaking, design and mixed-media.

I have created a series of images entitled ‘Women with Attitude’ that are a fusion of colour, shape and message.
Other experimental work in my range includes contemporary floral images made from torn papers I have painted and printed.
