Alisa Newey uses painting to express emotion through colour. The viewer doesn’t just see Alisa’s art, they also feel and experience the emotion each piece holds. Her large-scale paintings reflect how she experiences the world and are characterised by bold, vivid use of colour and intricate texture and detail. Key themes in Alisa’s work are the connection between people and place and the appreciation of fleeting beauty.
Raised on a small organic farm in Maleny, north of Brisbane, Alisa’s early years were colourful, eclectic and closely connected to nature. As a child Alisa loved being outdoors and loved to create. Her mother was an organic farmer and created beautiful gardens. The joyful imagery of flowers present in much of her work are reminiscent of these early memories.
Alisa’s Nanna was a painter, her earliest paintings were created sitting in her Nanna’s sunroom in Bulimba. Her love of colour and beauty led Alisa to find a pursue a career in design. She studied Architecture before completing her Masters in Visual Arts and has worked as an interior and furniture designer in Brisbane for the past decade.
Alisa brings together her knowledge of design, aesthetic, and colour to create paintings that are an expression of human emotion.
